Plot 7B Allotment Update 29.3.13 / 30.3.13

Wow! What a last couple of days! Finally got to build the greenhouse!

On the 29th, I managed to build the frame, on my own, and make it stable.

The ground had been prepped and kept as dry as possible.

The plan is to lay slabs and stand wooden battens on the slabs to create a raised bed scenario.

I started to assemble the frame on the 29th and finished putting the roof on, on the 30th.Image

I now have to secure the wooden battens to the slabs and the greenhouse to the battens.  The glass is waiting to be cleaned and the we will glaze the building and plan the floor space.

We plan to grow from the soil as well as having hanging tomatoes growing in there.

So glad that at last the green house is up and almost ready for action.

Allotment Update Plot 7B 16/17.03.2013

I spent a lot of time at the plot this weekend, with my wife and son and on my own.

The plan was to burn some waste and turn, weed and finalise the greenhouse site.

Unfortunately, the rain had done its worst and the greenhouse site was a tad boggy but we persevered and weeded a large area.

Old wood and rubbish was piled in the middle of a large bed and ceremonially burnt.

The ground for the greenhouse is being levelled out now and all being well and with no further rain, next weekend will be busy!!!!

Upon my return home tonight, 17th, I was greeted by 2 cucumbers on the grow.  I am pleased with this as I am told they are difficult to grow.  Time will tell!

The seeds are GROWING!!!!!!

I bought the seeds and seedlings inside last night as the temperature had dropped considerably.

Nothing was happening and I didn’t expect it to due to the cold but when i checked them this morning I found this:

Good start I thought til I got home tonight and found this:

All of the above is Pak Choi and mixed salad leaf.  I am so chuffed as I though the cold may have killed them off.

Can’t wait to think them out, plant on and taste the results!!!!

Allotment Update Plot 7B – 09.03.2013

Spent nearly 5 hours at the plot today.  It rained the whole time!

I did manage to transplant some over wintering onions that had been growing in pots at home.

Image

I then had to finish turning the area where the green house is going.  This had gotten quite wet over the last 2 days with the rain so was quite tough.

Now, at some point I will get the greenhouse built!!!

Allotment Update – Plot 7B 07.03.2013

I have not been to the plot today but have planted the following seeds:

Krakatoa Chilli Pepper x 10    Peperone Hot Pepper x 17     Tomato Red Alert x 24

Leaf Salad    Pak Choi

These are all currently in the house until the final frosts have gone when they will go into the grow house in the back garden.

This weekend will see the green house assembled.

Allotment Update – Plot 7B – 06.03.2013

Today I spent 4 hours at the plot.  The weather was overcast and rain was threatened but fortunately stayed away.

The plan was to turn the soil where the greenhouse is going.  Firstly though, I had to screw the lengths of wood together that will form the plinths that the greenhouse will sit on.

The creocote had soaked in nicely and the plinths are now stored away.

I then decided to plant the spring cabbage and garlic and net it.  The bed had been prepared with manure and turned numerous times so the soil now looks very good.

I watered them in and some water settled in the cabbage leaves.  Here are some close up photo’s.

The last part of my time at the plot was spent turning the area for the greenhouse.  HARD WORK!!

The second photo shows the makers where the greenhouse finishes so I still have a lot to turn and clear.

All of that will be done by the weekend at which point the greenhouse will be constructed.

Wow what a weekend. Finally got our hands on our 10 x 6 greenhouse.

It is now at the plot awaiting assembly.

I am going to stand the greenhouse on wooden battens sat on bricks / slabs.

The wood has been creocoted.

The glass will come home to be washed and disinfected. the frame will be built up and washed and cleaned with a soft brush.

Here are the photo’s so far.
